Galaxy S7 parts specs revealed: large 1/2.5-inch camera sensor and powerful speaker

There has been an unprecedented spate of leaks and speculation surrounding the highly-anticipated Phone of the Season -

Galaxy S7

- to the point where we're wondering what else is there to know, and if Samsung even cares more about leaks like it has in the past. We're kidding, the company probably does, but info on that upcoming S7 and his

S7 Edge

Sidekick pours out of the least expected places - perhaps that's why Samsung can't stem the tide.

In today's episode of

Galaxy S7

and S7

edge

We bring you a somewhat hilarious confirmation of the full data sheet, courtesy of an obscure Spanish bank - La Caixa - that has been rolling in its Samsung Pay collaboration campaign, and an internal poster for their collaboration has leaked. We immediately went to the La Caixa website and searched for Galaxy S7. Sure enough, a "

https://portal.lacaixa.es/campaigns_es.html

"-Link popped up with an HTML blurb saying "Galaxy S7" mentioned in the code, so the poster you see in the slideshow below is most likely genuine.

Admittedly, the data sheet listed there used

that

We've provided the Phone Arena rumor roundup video

, but still the bank seems happy with that, so the speculations we've listed about the specs may prove legitimate. So far we've seen tangential evidence for everything mentioned here, with the exception of the pressure-sensitive display, so this one on the end may no longer be in the picture.

How about the rumor

brand new 12 MP camera module in the S7

, but anything new about it? We're glad you asked, as the specs have also been leaked courtesy of the Zauba import database, which details a range of parts for an SM-G930F handset. The G930F is no different than

international version of the Galaxy S7

, so the offers definitely piqued our interest.

Among other interesting tidbits about the S7, such as that it has two speakers (one is probably the earpiece) of 1.2W and the generous 1.5W, is a treasure trove of information about the 12MP camera module. The device appears to have a 1/2.5-inch sensor size, which is large for a cellphone, and at this resolution, that means the individual pixels are larger than the typical 1.12-microns your average phone tends to are to gather more light, at least in theory. Quick calculations for a 1/2.5" sensor with 5.76mm width and 4.29 height and 12 million light collection bins on it, previous a

pixel

size of at least

1.4

microns, depending on the distance between pixels. This is roughly the same size as the pixels in the

iPhone 6

Camera, but of course with a 50% higher 12 megapixel resolution.

In any case, choose a smaller resolution number than the previous one

Galaxy S6

Edition, but with larger pixels, is a welcome change from the pointless megapixel race and should help the Galaxy S7 perform fairly well in low light conditions. With the S6 already taking beautiful pictures in low light, we can't wait to see the first samples of the S7 for comparison. That moment shouldn't be far away, because

we are armed and ready for MWC expo

, eager to bring you everything we learn about the next best thing from Samsung as quickly and thoroughly as possible. Stay tuned in.
