Why can't I take burst photos in Galaxy S20 burst mode?
When do you need to take burst photos in Galaxy S20's burst mode?
Galaxy S20
burst mode
can take
up to 100
Photos one by one so you can capture the important moments.
You can usually later select some of the burst photos that capture the moment you want.
You can use burst mode during an event when the subject is moving, the background is changing, or the scene is short.
Some Galaxy S20 owners can use the burst shot photos to create animations or even videos that usually look better than the recorded video for the same event.
Please note that all photos taken in Galaxy S20 burst mode are always saved in the phone memory, even if you change the photo storage location to the SD card in
Galaxy S20 camera settings
.
Galaxy S20 burst mode ios NOT listed with others
Galaxy S20 camera modes
because it requires a special gesture.
How to take burst photos with Galaxy S20 burst mode?
On old Galaxy phones, you can hold down the shutter button to take burst photos.
However, this is not the case with the Galaxy S20, S20+ or S20 Ultra.
When you hold down the shutter button
Galaxy S20 camera app
, a short video is recorded. The full list of gestures in the Galaxy S20 camera app is explained
here
.
On the Galaxy S20, you have to
Swipe down from the shutter button to enter the Galaxy S20 burst mode
.The Galaxy S20 will stop taking burst photos as soon as you take your finger off the screen.
The gesture feels like swiping down and then holding the shutter button, as shown below.
Please note when you use
navigation keys
, and swipe down too far to the home button, you might return to the
Galaxy S20 home screen
or Launch Google Assistant.
So all you have to do is swipe down a little and then hold.
The Galaxy S20's burst mode can take up to 100 photos in one shot. Of course, you can always take your finger off the screen to stop the burst mode and take less than 100 photos.
As the burst shots are taken, a counter will appear above the shutter button, showing the total number of photos in that shot, as shown below.
At the same time, the trigger is hollowed out.
Please note that the burst mode is only linked to the shutter button. You cannot swipe
floating trigger
to take burst photos.
How to enable and disable Galaxy S20 Burst mode?
By default, the shutter swipe in the Galaxy S20 camera app is assigned to the Galaxy S20 burst mode.
But it can also be reassigned to create a GIF animation. This essentially disables the Burst Shot photo, as some Galaxy S20 owners can accidentally trigger this mode.
Usually it is NOT recommended to assign the gesture to the GIF animation, because you can use the burst photos to create better GIFs.
In
Galaxy S20 camera settings
page, as shown below, you can tap
Swipe the trigger to the edge
Assign functions for this gesture.
As shown above, you can assign this gesture:
take a serial picture
.
Create GIF
.
These two options are of course mutually exclusive. You can assign the gesture to either of them.
How do I manage burst shot photos taken with Galaxy S20 burst mode in Gallery app?
Identify burst shot photos
In the Gallery app (and in Google Photos), burst photos are combined into one set.
As shown in the screenshot below, each set of the burst photos has a special icon on it to indicate that it is a series of photos and not one photo. The best shot is used for the thumbnail.
So you can easily identify the burst photos in Gallery app. Google Photos can also identify them as a burst shot.
Edit burst photos
When editing burst photos, you can edit each photo individually and export some selected photos from the group/set.
The interface for managing burst photos differs from that for regular photos. By default, the "best" photo opens with a crown icon.
As shown in the two screenshots below, you can find some functions and features for burst photos:
menu button.
There are a few options, especially for photos taken in the Galaxy S20's burst mode.Read more.
Favorites button
.You can mark the current photo (not necessarily the best shot) as a favorite. The Gallery app has a filter for all favorite photos.

.The pen icon takes you to the photo editing page for the current photo.Editing is almost identical to normal photos as only the current photo is selected from the set.
Split.
You can share the current photo with other apps or contacts.
Extinguish.
You can delete the current photo or delete all in the burst.Read more.
Select one or more photos in the bust image
.After tapping this button, you can select other photos in the shot and assign them as best photo or export the photo.
The best photo icon
.This button allows you to designate the currently selected photo as the best photo in the burst.
There is only one photo that can be assigned as the best photo
.So this button is grayed out when you select two or more photos.
Export (save) the selected photo(s)
.You can selectively save some of the photos in the burst as normal photos. This would create a copy of those photos. The saved (exported) photos will no longer be associated with the burst.
Please note that only one of the photos in the burst can be designated as the best photo, which will appear as a thumbnail for the set of bursts. If you assign it to a new photo in the set, the old one will not have the icon.
Convert burst photos to GIF or live messages
In the burst photo menu you will find the following options as shown below:

this guide
Information on how to print photos or documents on the Galaxy S20, S10 and S9.
Please note if you create a GIF animation from the burst mode photos, the resolution is limited to
VGA
(640*480).
There are no options to use the full resolution of the photos
.
If you create the animation without using the Galaxy S20 burst mode (i.e. set the swipe from trigger gesture to GIF animation), the same resolution limitation applies.
So if you want animations with the same resolution of the
Photo size settings
, consider using the Galaxy S20's burst mode and an external app to create GIF animations.
You can also share the burst shot photos as a live message. It's essentially a GIF animation with added effects. Again, the resolution is limited to 640×480.
Delete photos in burst mode
As mentioned earlier, you can delete individual photos in the burst or delete all photos in the burst.
By default, when you tap the Delete button (5), you will be prompted to delete just this photo or delete all, as shown above.
if you
tap
to check (by default it is disabled)”
Shift the rest of the burst shot as well
', all the photos in that burst will be deleted.
