OnePlus plans to unveil its first pair of truly wireless earbuds on July 21.
The upcoming "OnePlus Buds" will be launched on the same day as a cheaper Android smartphone called the OnePlus Nord, the company said in an Instagram post on Monday.
The OnePlus Bullets Wireless Bluetooth headphones received positive reviews last year, but the earbuds were strung together with a neckband, making them difficult to carry in a bag. The upcoming OnePlus Buds are expected to ditch the neckband approach for an AirPods-like experience, with the earbuds housed in a battery charging case. Pricing hasn't been announced, but the Bullets Wireless earbuds retail for $99.
"You asked for no wires. We heard you," OnePlus CEO Pete Lau wrote in a follow-up post on Twitter.
We'll have to wait and see if the earbuds will offer features such as active noise-cancelling. However, the earbuds will finally address a gap in the company's product catalogue. The Chinese vendor ditched the headphone jack in its smartphones in October 2018 when it introduced the OnePlus 6T. But it has stuck with wired headphones at a time when AirPods-like earbuds are all the rage.
As for the OnePlus Nord smartphone, the company says the product will retail for under $500 when it launches in India and Europe. It's unclear if it'll arrive in the US, but OnePlus has promised to bring more affordable smartphones to North America in the near future.
OnePlus launched its flagship phones, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, in the US in April. However, the pricing starts at $699 and $899, respectively.
