Pokemon fans, eat your heart out: In China, PC vendor Razer is selling a pair of wireless earbuds that charge inside a Pokeball.
The "Pickachu Wireless - Ear" was launched for the Chinese market as part of an Easter surprise on Monday. Consumers get Razer's Hammerhead True Wireless headphones, but they're packaged in a Pokemon-themed charging case.
Razer also redesigned the headphones to match the yellow colors of the Pikachu character. Also, each earbud has a Pikachu icon on the side.
On top of all this, the replica Poké Ball will come with sound effects taken from the Pokemon TV show, including from Pikachu himself. For instance, when you turn on the charging case, it'll say “Pika! Pi~Ka~Chu.” When the battery gets low, it'll then warn you by saying “PikaPika! PikaPika!”
The same product will also light up like a real Poke ball when charging your earbuds. “This is definitely every Pokemon trainer's must-have dream for wireless headphones,” Razer said in promoting the product.
The charging cases for today's wireless earbuds all tend to look pretty generic. So Razer's idea to spice up the design by using a beloved video game series is definitely welcomed. (On the downside, the charging case probably won't fit easily inside a pocket.)
Unfortunately, there's no word on whether the Pokemon-themed earbuds will ever arrive in the US. But we're crossing our fingers that they'll land one day soon. In the meantime, the Pickachu wireless earbuds will officially go on sale in China for 849 yuan (US$120) this Thursday. Razer created the special model after creating a Pickachu-themed keyboard and mouse for the Chinese market last fall.
